MAXAM Foundation - Press room - News - José Fernando Sánchez-Junco, Chairman & CEO of MAXAM, new patron of the Mining and Industry Museum of Asturias (MUMI)

MAXAM has been working alongside the MUMI since 1997

José Fernando Sánchez-Junco, Chairman and CEO of MAXAM, has been appointed new patron of the New Technologies and Culture Foundation (Fundatec), the organisation entrusted with managing the MUMI.

The first meeting of the new patrons took place yesterday, and was focused on finding opportunities to boost the offer for tourists in the El Entrego located Museum, in the heart of Asturias. The first steps agreed by the patrons were to coordinate offers with other museums and cultural centres in Asturias and to set up a workgroup. This group includes new members of the companies Hunosa y Orovalle, represented by its Chairwoman, Mª Teresa Mallada, and its Director General, Nuria Menéndez, respectively.

The House of the Explosives
MAXAM, through its Foundation, sponsors The House of the Explosives at the MUMI (inaugurated in 1994, and over 60,000 visitors in 2015), which is dedicated to showing the origins of the explosives industry and its progression within the chemical sector. A dynamic, interactive permanent exhibition which sets out the initial developments in explosive products (black powder, hunting cartridges, detonators, etc.) and their role in the development of mining, which in turn led to the economic and industrial progress of our model of society. The collaboration between MAXAM Foundation and the MUMI is ongoing, a process which continues day-by-day through the study, cataloguing and exhibition of pieces which MAXAM's group of companies sends to Asturias from countries such as Bolivia, USA, Portugal, Greece, Bulgaria, and many others.
"Thanks to our collaboration with the MUMI, which dates back to the 1990s, we have helped to set up and promote one of the best museums in the world in terms of industry processes for the manufacture of explosives for mining. This partnership and its results are a source of pride", stated Sánchez-Junco.
