Press room - News - MAXAM acquires ENSEGUR and ETSA DOI, enterprises dedicated to the transport of explosive products

Today the Spanish Cabinet of Ministers gave the SEPI (State Holding Company) its appoval for the sale of both companies; MAXAM has acquired the companies with its total offer of € 670,000 via a public tender operation.

MAXAM's bid was selected by public tender, with the SEPI releasing ENUSEGUR and ETSA DOI (subsidiaries of the ENUSA Group) via a privatization process launched last December.

Both companies are dedicated to the transportation of explosives, both for civil uses, as well as for the manufacture of defence and sport shooting cartridges, coinciding with MAXAM’s three main business units:
  • MAXAM Civil Explosives (Blasting products and services for mining, quarrying and infrastructure)
  • MAXAM Outdoors (cartridges for sports shooting and hunting) and
  • MAXAM Defence (products and services for the defence industry).
The final cost, which covers 100% of both companies’ shares, amounts to € 670,000. ENUESGUR is headquartered in Spain and has a staff of 15 people, with its activities focused on Spain and other European countries. Meanwhile, ETSA DOI is headquarted in Romania and has a staff of seven people, with its activity centered on that local market and other European countries.

Logistics capabilities
This contract significantly strengthens MAXAM’s competitiveness with the European market, where it is a leader in the field of blasting products and services for mining, quarrying and infrastructure.

Transport and logistical activities are a critical factor in MAXAM’s operations stategy for Europe. The recently incorporated companies will allow it to significantly increase the levels of integration of its industrial structure and logistics, which will, in turn, improve the level of service provided to its clients.

International leadership
These two aspects - logistics capability and an integrated production chain- along with its internationalization strategy, consolidated in recent years, are the factors that have made MAXAM the European leader in the manufacture and sale of explosives and initiation systems for civilian use intended for mining, quarrying the construction of infrastructure and public works.

A leadership position reinforced in recent years by strengthening the Company’s presence in countries or regions that have shown strong growth, such as Russia, Central Asia, Africa or Latin America. Globally, MAXAM Civil Explosives is second leading Company overall, the third in terms of turnover, with a leading position in key growth markets such as Russia and Central Asia.

In the manufacture and sale of ammunition for sports shooting and hunting, MAXAM Outdoors is one of the world’s leaders, with more than 500 million cartridges manufactured in their factories in Spain, England and the USA each year.

In defence activity, MAXAM Defence provides products and services to the military and defense ministries of over 30 countries, with over 90% of its turnover is achieved in international markets. MAXAM Defence is also the European leader in demilitarization (destruction, recovery and recycling of all types of ammunition and explosives, as well as soil decontamination and the cleaning of military or conflict zones).

MAXAM is also, through its business area MAXAM Chem, the nitrochemicals leader within the European industry, both in the distribution of raw materials, such as nitrocellulose and ammonium nitrate, and in the development of components for diesel fuel to help reduce CO2 emissions.

Also, with its technological developments in environmental and safety MAXAM Energy has become an expert advisor on these matters. Notably, participation in a wind generation farm within the MAXAM grid generates more energy than that which is consumed throughout all of the Company's manufacturing facilities in Spain, and a edaphological land recovery project in the wasteland surrounding its facilities in the province of Burgos has given way to an incipient forest with more than 1.5 million trees.
