The Exporters and Investors Club’s XI Internationalization Awards’ ceremony was chaired by the Spanish State Secretary for Commerce, Jaime García-Legaz.
- MAXAM traces its origins to 1872, when Alfred Nobel founded the “Spanish Dynamite Powder Corporation. Alfred Nobel Privileges” in Bilbao, Spain.
- The Company has production facilities and 6,500 employees in 45 countries, with sales of its products and services in over 100 countries spread across five continents.
- This year the Company expects to generate over than 1,000 M€ in earnings, with an EBITDA in excess of 125 M€; 90 % of sales in international markets.
- MAXAM Civil Explosives is the second leading company with global operations in the field of products and blasting services for the mining, quarrying and construction sectors.
- MAXAM Outdoors is the world leader in production of gunpowder and shotshells for hunting and sports shooting.
- MAXAM Defence is a European leader in the field of demilitarization and provides products and services to armies and defence ministries in 40 countries.
The Exporters and Investors Club’s Internationalization Award recognize those individuals, companies and institutions that stand out for their work supporting and promoting Spanish products and services worldwide, contributing to the development of the Spanish economy and internationalization of its companies.
MAXAM’s international leadership
This strategy has permitted the Company to consolidate its position as the European leader in the manufacture and sale of products (civil explosives and initiation systems) and blasting services for the mining, quarrying and infrastructure construction and public works sectors. This established leadership position has been further strengthened in recent years due to reinforced efforts in countries and regions experiencing rapid growth, including Russia, Central Asia, Africa and Latin America. At an international level MAXAM Civil Explosives is the world’s second largest global producer –and the third largest in terms of revenue–, with a leadership position in key growth markets including Europe, Russia and Central Asia.
Amongst the Company’s most recent major projects in Asia its work in Oyu Tolgoi (Mongolia) particularly stand out; MAXAM serves as the exclusive provider of blasting products and services for one of the world’s largest gold and copper mines. Meanwhile, the Company is building an initiations systems factory in Shandong Province, China, which is scheduled to commence production in late 2014.
Throughout its MAXAM Chem business area, MAXAM is also one of Europeans leaders within the nitrochemicals industry, both in terms of the distribution of energy raw materials as in the production of nitrocellulose, nitric acid and ammonium nitrate.
Through various brands and manufacturing facilities in Spain, England and USA, MAXAM Outdoors is a world leader in the manufacture and sale of ammunition for sports shooting and hunting.
With regards to the defence sector, MAXAM Defence provides products and services to the armies and defence ministries of 40 countries, and over 90% of its turnover is achieved within international markets. MAXAM Defence is also the European leader in demilitarization (destruction, recovery and recycling of all types of ammunition and explosives, as well as soil decontamination and the cleaning of military or conflict zones).
The Company’s application of its environmental and safety-related technological developments has made MAXAM Energy an expert consulting soruce in these matters. Notably, MAXAM has participated in the development of in a wind generation farm in Páramo de Masa (Burgos), with which the Company produces more energy than that which is consumed by all of its manufacturing facilities on Spanish soil. Moreover, it has also participated in revolutionary edaphic projects for the recovery of soils, turning the barren lands that surrounded its facilities in the province of Burgos into a verdant forest composed of over 1.5 million trees.
