Press room - News - MAXAM signs an agreement to buy GPN’s Technical Ammonium Nitrate (TAN) Plant in Mazingarbe
The sale by GPN is part of its industrial reorganization plan.
The offer also includes the business associated to TAN activities: among them, the supply to current Mazingarbe clients.
TAN is an essential raw material to civil explosives, a vital product for the operation of mines and quarries, as well as for the building of infrastructures.
MAXAM, with the aim of reinforcing both its supply of ammonium nitrate for the production of civil explosives, and the development of its TAN activities independently, has presented a purchase offer for Mazingarbe assets and GPN’s TAN business. This change of owner is a guarantee for the future of the Mazingarbe plant, as well as for the TAN supply to the market and its current clients.
With the integration of this company, MAXAM strengthens its industrial position in France, where it already owns a subsidiary —a European leader in the production of energetic nitrocellulose— in association with the Société Nationale des Poudres et des Explosifs (SNPE). It also owns two other companies devoted to the manufacture and distribution of civil explosives.
Nitrocellulose is necessary to develop many of our daily life elements. Packages, sellotape, cardboard, aluminium and gunpowder would not be possible without this product.
