MAXAM, global technology leader specialised in the design, development, manufacture and application of energy materials, will present their latest developments in shotshells for hunting, shooting and law enforcement at the IWA OutdoorClassics trade fair in Nuremberg (Germany). The most important hunting and shooting event in Europe will welcome the launch of four new products from the brand RIO Cartridges in the continent, that were presented in the American market during the SHOT Show in Las Vegas last January.

The Royal Pheasant is a cartridge specially designed for hunting pheasants and has copper plated lead pellets to improve the shot and results in the field. Another new product is the spreader line that includes the latest generation wads designed by RIO to improve dispersion by 25% and that, combined with a speed of 1,350 feet per second, makes this product the best option for hunting rabbits and clay pigeon shooting at close range.

The third new product is designed for hunting turkeys with a buffer defined by the company’s engineers by its mechanical and granularity properties, that in tests has improved the quantity of pellets in the target by 10% at 40 yards. Finally, the new 1896 vintage cartridges with paper casings guarantee the same experience that shooters felt 120 years ago when they fired manually loaded ammunition and also reinforces the company’s interest in sustainable components.
Alternatives to lead

RIO Cartridges will also present their wide range of non-lead cartridges at the trade fair. Non-lead cartridges are increasingly in demand in Europe as an alternative to a certain type of hunting and to comply with regulations in countries such as Denmark, Belgium and Holland. Within this range are cartridges loaded with steel and bismuth pellets. Steel pellets are preferred by waterfowlers as steel is 30% less dense than lead, so more pellets can be loaded within the cartridge.

Whilst bismuth pellets provide a greater density than steel ones, which improves speed and energy retention during the trajectory to the target.

“For over 120 years we have been working every day to develop products for the world’s most demanding hunters and shooters. These latest launches reflect this commitment for continuous improvement and innovation and we are confident that our clients will positively value an increasingly expanding range of products”, explains Germán Morales, General Manager of the cartridges business unit of MAXAM.

The company will also exhibit its law enforcement and home defence solutions in Nuremberg. This includes less-lethal cartridges for short, medium and long reach, tactical cartridges for opening doors and stopping vehicles and drones, and propellant cartridges for tributes and distraction sounds. All of these are currently sold in several countries, including Spain, United States, Chile and South Africa, among others.

The MAXAM range is completed with components for loading cartridges both for individual shooters and hunters as well as by other manufacturers. The company makes their know-how available to third parties in the development and manufacture of casings, primers and powders with immediate response, suitable for different temperature and humidity conditions.
